The Hyundai Creta's brochure says 17.4 kmpl for the 1.5 petrol. But what do owners actually get? We went through Team-BHP ownership reports from 2025–26 to find out.
In heavy city traffic (think Bangalore or Chennai at peak hours), Creta 1.5 petrol owners report 10–11 kmpl with the AC always on. One owner tracked 10,000 km of mostly city driving and averaged 10.7 kmpl. On the highway at a steady 90–100 kmph, the same car returns 19–20 kmpl — actually beating the claimed figure.
City driving means idling, crawling and constant AC load. The 1.5L engine is efficient at steady speeds but thirsty in stop-go traffic. The IVT automatic is about 1 kmpl worse than the manual in the city.
If your driving is 80% city, budget for ~11 kmpl, not 17. At Delhi's October 2026 petrol price of ₹102.12/litre and 12,000 km a year, that's roughly ₹1.11 lakh per year in fuel — versus ₹72,000 if you believed the brochure. The diesel Creta (claimed 21.8) is kinder to heavy users, and strong hybrids like the Grand Vitara genuinely deliver 20+ in the city.
